Wellbeing
Wellbeing is about how we feel and can describe how healthy or happy we are. It includes how satisfied we are with our lives and how we are living them. Our wellbeing is also about how well we are coping with difficult experiences and life stressors.
Things that might promote good wellbeing (Hampshire CAMHS, 2025):
- Having a routine; getting up and going to bed at similar times
- Good sleep hygiene (learn more about sleep hygiene)
- Being organised and having a plan of what to do and how to do it
- Eating and drinking regularly, this includes having breakfast everyday
- Engaging in hobbies and interests regularly
- Making sure there is a balance of activities; academic work, social time and rest as these are all equally important
- Having limits as to how much they use technology, social media and online gaming
- Having short and longer term goals and ambitions; things to look forward to, strive and work towards
Signs our wellbeing might need improving:
- Experiencing too many negative emotions, such as feeling stressed, anxious, low in mood and/or irritable
- Finding it hard to focus and remember things
- Struggling to keep healthy habits - eating or drinking unhealthily, poor sleep, not doing physical activity, taking harmful drugs
- Feeling like you don’t have a purpose
- Feeling isolated or isolating yourself from people you usually have positive relationships with
In life we can have good experiences, challenges and things that can make us feel sad. It is normal to experience positive and negative feelings. However, if the negative feelings last for a long time, things might be impacting your mental health.
