How do I contact the right person?

If you are supporting someone who uses our services, the team you are in contact with should give you details of the most appropriate person to contact. This information should be included in the Our Partners in Care booklet or shared with you by the team involved in the person’s care.

If you are not sure who to contact, or you have a non-urgent carer-related question, you can contact our dedicated carers email service: carersQAservice@nsft.nhs.uk.

What does a Carer Ambassador do?

Carer Ambassadors help their teams improve how they involve and support carers. This includes helping staff to:

  • Recognise carers as important partners in care
  • Listen to the knowledge and experience carers can share
  • Involve carers from the first point of contact through to discharge or transfer, where appropriate
  • Communicate clearly with carers, families and supporters
  • Share information about support, such as carers groups, carers assessments and local carer services

What this means for you as a carer

We want carers to feel included, informed and supported. Carer Ambassadors help teams keep carers in mind and make sure staff understand the difference carers can make to a person’s care, safety and recovery.

You can expect staff to listen to your views, value what you know about the person you support, and involve you in care discussions where possible and appropriate. If information cannot be shared because of confidentiality, staff should still listen to any concerns or information you want to provide.

How Carer Ambassadors can support carers

Carer Ambassadors can help staff signpost you to information and support that may be helpful for your caring role.

This could include local carer services, carers assessments, carers groups, emotional wellbeing support, and information about mental health conditions or treatment.
