Adult Carers

Adult carers play a vital role in supporting the wellbeing and recovery of the person they care for.

You may provide practical help, emotional support, or assistance with day-to-day activities. Your knowledge, experience and involvement are important, and we recognise the value of the support you provide.

Some people may not identify themselves as carers, but still provide essential support.

How a carer can be involved in care

As a carer, you are entitled to:

  • Be recognised and identified as a carer
  • Be involved in decisions about care where appropriate
  • Receive clear communication and information
  • Access a carers assessment
  • Be supported to look after your own health and wellbeing

What you can do as a carer

We ask adult carers to help us by:

  • Letting us know that you are a carer
  • Sharing important information about the needs and preferences of the person you support
  • Raising concerns if you are worried about care or safety
  • Staying in contact with services involved
