Reasonable adjustment

Please click her for easy read information about reasonable adjustments.

The Equality Act 2010 requires service providers, education and employers make reasonable adjustments, to remove or reduce barriers that people with disabilities may have when accessing services.

Reasonable adjustments should allow disabled people access to the same opportunities and services as non-disabled people.

Reasonable adjustments will be different for different organisations.  What is reasonable for one organisation may be impossible for another.

Reasonable adjustments will also vary from person to person.

They could include:

  • Access to buildings or environments for example ramps, accessible toilets, wider doors, changes to lighting etc
  • Communication for example how people best communicate with you. Our language and communications page has more information
  • Changes within education for example modifying teaching or assessment techniques, getting lecture notes in advance or having access to quiet spaces
  • Training for example making sure that the people that support you have the right training.
