What this service offers
Crisis assessments and support for individuals under the age of 18. Consultations for professionals.
Access this service
When a young person attends an acute hospital and requires an emergency assessment of their mental state and risk, the hospital will contact CAIST to provide this assessment. If a GP refers the young person for an emergency assessment CAIST will also support them.
To access the CAIST service hospitals or GPs should request a consultation via the relevant area locality team.
CAIST will try to complete a face-to-face assessment within four hours. For the majority this would be at the Accident and Emergency department of the local hospital but where more appropriate could be in the community.
CAIST can also offer consultations to all professionals working with young people where there may be concerns around escalation of a mental health crisis. This can be requested by contacting the relevant locality team.
When a young person requires crisis support in the community, CAIST can offer either a brief intervention or a more intensive treatment plan if needed.
