Overview

This study tests an online talking therapy to improve sleep and wellbeing for people experiencing psychosisrelated difficulties.

About the study

Many people struggle with their sleep — whether that’s difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking up in the morning. This study is testing an online talking therapy designed to help people sleep better.

Participants receive around eight online sessions with a trained therapist over 12 weeks, delivered via Microsoft Teams. The therapy focuses on helping people achieve regular sleep at the best time of day.

We want to find out if the therapy can improve sleep. We also want to find out whether improving sleep brings other benefits to a person’s life. For example, if it improves mood, concentration, and thinking.

Who can take part?

People aged 14+ and are:

• In receipt of care from the Therapeutic Interventions for Distressing unusual Experiences Service (TIDES) - Norfolk & Waveney At-Risk Mental State Service

Have current problems with their sleep

• Have had distressing experiences such as worrying that others may be trying to harm them or hearing voices

What will I have to do / What does this study involve?

Everyone who takes part would be asked to complete an assessment at the beginning and then repeat it after 12 weeks and 24 weeks. There is a small payment of £15 for each of these assessments. These assessments will be conducted online (via Teams and telephone calls).

Half the people who take part will receive the sleep therapy. This is decided randomly by a computer (a bit like flipping a coin). This allows us to find out if the sleep therapy is helpful - since we can see how people have got on with and without the sleep therapy. Everyone in the trial will also continue with the usual care
