Winning postcard signed, sealed and delivered in project to combat loneliness

An image of the winning postcard design. The design shows a little girl and her grandad sitting on the beach listening to ‘Lonely this Christmas’ on the radio, with the little girl quoting ‘not this year grandad.’

A clever and heartfelt illustrated postcard has received the stamp of approval in a project aimed at creating connections and combatting loneliness.

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust's (NSFT) Recovery College invited staff and members of the public to place a design on a postcard and send it to someone they know who may feel isolated or lonely over the winter months.

The Winter Connections Challenge encouraged people to reach out and support each other in a creative way to help tackle loneliness which plays a key role in physical and emotional health.

Those taking part in the project could enter a competition for the most inspirational design and the winner was Martin Bultitude, an Activity Worker with NSFT in Ipswich.

His illustration shows a little girl and her grandad sitting on the beach listening to 'Lonely this Christmas' on the radio, with the little girl quoting 'not this year grandad.'

Recovery College Manager, Ash Moorcroft, said the design was a clear winner for the judges: "We had so many incredible entries, but the judges felt the winning design captured the true spirit of the campaign in a way that so many of us could relate to. Thank you to everyone who took part in the project and helped to make someone feel better connected over the winter months with a simple gesture."

Martin received a £50 gift card for his winning design.
