What this service offers
ADYSS offer needs led assessments for young people who may be autistic.
This includes finding out about a young person's strengths, difficulties and differences, and learning more about what is working well and what is not working well.
Learning about a young person in this way helps us to understand their needs, the needs of the people around them and think about support that may be helpful.
Following an assessment ADYSS can support a young person to understand their assessment and any diagnosis that is made. ADYSS can offer advice and signposting.
You can find out more about ADYSS as well as signposting and support here Autism Diagnostic Service | Norfolk and Suffolk NHS (nsft.nhs.uk)
Access this service
Before a referral can be made for an autism assessment, a young person should have been supported by professionals to identify and support their needs.
This should be done using one of the following processes:
- The graduated response, within education
- Support from health or social care professionals
You can find out more information here Autism - What do you do if you want an Autism assessment? | Norfolk and Suffolk NHS
Referrals to ADYSS can be made by professionals in health, education and/or social care using this form The East & West Suffolk NDD Pathway - Suffolk SEND Local Offer.

How this service support carers including friends and family
ADYSS work with young people, and their parents/carers to understand their needs.
During the young person's assessment with ADYSS, a member of the team will be identified as the young persons named contact. This person will work with the young person, and their parent or carer, to help them understand the assessment process, share what guides ADYSS's thinking and think about next steps after appointments.
After our assessment ADYSS can support the young person, and their parent or carers to understand any diagnosis that is given, think about what this means and support that may be helpful.
ADYSS can provide information about local and national organisations that that may be able to offer further support or information.
