Support for those overwhelmed by the prospect of a New Year

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust's (NSFT) Recovery College is offering help and support to those who may find the prospect of the New Year overwhelming.

This time of year brings lots of conversation about new year resolutions, new starts, and a commitment to lifestyle changes, but it can feel daunting for those with mental health conditions.

NSFT's Recovery College is reminding people of the help and support they have available, such as workshops and one-to-one coaching sessions.

Lydia Hall, Tutor Development Lead, at The Recovery College said: "As the mental health Trust for Norfolk and Suffolk, we understand the needs of people and how some may feel pressure around this time of year. Whilst resolutions and marketing around a new year, new you, can be a helpful focus for some, it can also have a negative impact on people's mental health.

"There will also be people who have experienced a difficult time and feel anxious about the new year ahead, or there will be others who feel the pressure of making a fresh start. It is important to remember that our wellbeing isn't determined by one date in the calendar, so think about focusing on one day at a time, and if you do want to set yourself goals, make them small and achievable."

For those who need extra support and help, The Recovery College is offering support into the new year. There are a number of courses which you can sign up to, such as understanding anxiety, building confidence and wellbeing. A full list of the courses can be found on the Recovery College website www.nsft.nhs.uk/recovery-college, along with self-help guides.

One-to-one sessions are also available. These can be booked in advance by calling 0300 303 4419 or by emailing recoveryonline@nsft.nhs.uk
