Life changing for you and others - NSFT recruitment video
Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT) has launched a powerful new recruitment video to raise awareness of mental health and inspire registered nurses and others interested in healthcare to move into this important part of the NHS.
Life changing for you and others, is an honest, emotional and uplifting snapshot of the journey from citizen to mental health nurse. It provides an insider’s view into some of the things that can be expected from a busy and rewarding area of healthcare. NSFT is looking to recruit people new to care, or looking for a pathway into nursing, those seeking a nursing role and people who have experience of successfully transforming services.
The video starts with a job-hunter, Priscilla sitting on a bus feeling helpless as a passenger has a mental health crisis. It later shows her pressing the send button on her application and then performing the everyday tasks her new role entails. She meets Paul, an actor who plays the part of a service user, and uses her training to understand his condition and help him.
Filmed on location in Norfolk and Suffolk at Trust premises and on the beach in Great Yarmouth, the shoot included members of staff who volunteered to take part on their days off.
The featured character nurse was performed by Norfolk resident Priscilla Nzounhenda, an NSFT modern matron. Originally from Zimbabwe, Priscilla graduated from university in the USA, after which she studied nursing at Anglia Ruskin University. She has worked for NSFT for four years and is Interim Deputy Lead for Secure and Forensic Services and is also the Trust’s Black and Minority Ethnic workforce lead.
NSFT Deputy Chief Executive Cath Byford, a registered nurse by background, said: “Supporting and caring for others is one of the most rewarding things you can do. At NSFT, whatever our role, whatever our contribution, it always comes back to the fact that we believe we are here to support people to live well in their day-to-day lives.
“We have a lot of highly-skilled and dedicated people within our organisation doing this every single working day. We are looking for more people to join us, to help us provide excellent care across all our specialist mental health and learning disability services in Norfolk and Suffolk.”
