Carers can find support and advice all under one roof
Advice and support for people who act as a carer for a family member or friend will be brought together under one roof for an annual event held at the Forum in Norwich.
The Carers Information Day is organised annually by Care for Carers in partnership with Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT) and aims to highlight the organisations across the voluntary, public and private sectors offering support to carers and those being cared for in Norfolk.
The event, which will take place on Monday 8 June during Carers Week (8-14) June, 9am-3pm, will include a marketplace of stalls to show what support and information is available across the county.
Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities. It also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support.
The theme this year is Building Carer Friendly Communities and will highlight the impact this can have in making a real and lasting difference to the lives of carers everywhere.
Last year’s event saw more than 3000 people attend and stalls from organisations including Norfolk County Council, Alzheimer’s Society, Vision, Breath Easy, Healthwatch Norfolk, services at NSFT, and more.
Jill Curtis, Trustwide Carer Facilitator, said: “This event is growing every year as it becomes more and more popular. It’s always a great chance for teams and services from NSFT to showcase their work and the support they provide for carers. Visitors will also be able to see the work of other organisations and find out how they could help them in their caring roles.”
Peter Rowley, founder of Care for Carers, said he and his wife Christine were really proud of the event, which brings together services that support unpaid carers.
He said: “It will be great to see this event get the same support this year. Being an unpaid carer can often be a big challenge for people, so we try to get all those who can support and advise under one roof.”
