Fine motor skills

Fine motor difficulties (using and controlling small muscles, for example in the hands and fingers)

You could try and create some hand or finger exercises to do regularly. This will strengthen hand grasp and finger movements. Examples include:

  • Using a hole-punch or making paper balls.
  • Unscrewing the lids of jars and containers.
  • Use a grasping pen to practice writing skills.
  • Play games that involve pegs, like battleships.

Gross motor skills

Gross motor difficulties (using larger muscle groups, for example in the legs, arms, and torso)

Try and introduce more physical activities to daily life that include gross motor movements. Such as:

  • Climbing or swinging.
  • Using a balance board/ball.
  • Trampoline or trampette.
  • Throwing and catching.
