Local autism social clubs

There are lots of different activities and social groups available for young people, and those who support them, in Suffolk.  Some groups are specifically for autistic or other neurodiverse young people.

Local groups:

  • 4YP - based in Ipswich - They run drop in sessions and youth clubs
  • The Mix - based in Stowmarket and Needham Market - Offering drop in sessions for different age groups, an up to date youth work calendar is available on their website
    • They also run the Diadem Girls Group, which meets for 6 2-hour sessions and aims to help girls improve their confidence, mental health, relationships, body image and all the other tricky bits of being a teen
  • Eden’s Youth Centre - based in Sudbury - They run youth groups and drop ins and aim to be an inclusive space
  • Just 42 - based in Woodbridge - They run a variety of kids clubs, youth clubs and projects. Their youth clubs are currently running in Alderton, Sutton Heath, Hollesley and Grundisburgh.
  • (coming soon) STARS - based in Ipswich. They aim to make a difference to the lives of children and young adults aged 11-25 yrs with complex health and learning needs, by providing consistent play/leisure activities.
  • Suffolk Family Carers - Their events page offers a range of activities, such as art groups, low sensory family swim sessions, activity sessions, drop ins, peer support

     

For parents/ carers

  • Autism Central run drop in sessions in Sudbury and also virtually
  • Family Action run parent/carer drop in sessions in Bury st. Edmunds and Haverhill
  • Autism Anglia run drop in sessions in a variety of locations as part of their community connect project

 

Autism specific groups/activities

  • Autism Central run a variety of activities and groups, including a youth group (age 10+), computer gaming evenings, bowling groups, a LEGO group, family picnics and Christmas parties
  • Asperger East Anglia run social groups and activities for children and families, parents, and adults with autism
  • Ace Anglia host meetings for people with learning disabilities and autistic people. Their website has a calendar with up to date events they are running
  • Ambitious About Autism If you are diagnosed, or think you might be autistic, you can join our Ambitious Youth Network This is a place where you can make friends, learn more about yourself, and get involved with projects or campaigns. 
  • Stowmarket ASD Plus Club - based in Stowmarket - They run weekly activity sessions for young people with autism aged 13+.
  • Leading Lives (over 18s only) - based in Ipswich - This is a safe space for autistic people to meet new people and take part in different activities
