Four generations pay tribute to ‘special man’

amily and staff on bench dedicated to Malcolm Blowers

Four generations of a family were at Carlton Court Hospital for the dedication of a memorial bench to one of Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundations Trust's well-loved experts by experience.

The daughter of Malcolm Blowers said the idea came about as her dad loved spending time outside in the garden. Carla Smith said: Dad would have loved the idea of having his own bench and would be happy where it has been placed. Although he is not here, he will always be here in spirit. We have had this bench made in his memory so that we can sit, in what was a special place to him and celebrate his life as a family on those special occasions.

The family, who live in the Beccles area, chose to have the bench placed at Carlton Court as Malcolm has worked there and spent a lot of time helping with the gardens.

The bench was installed on Tuesday, May 6, exactly a year after his death and was dedicated by NSFT chaplain Julie Warren.

She said: It's really good to be able to celebrate Malcolm and all that he was and all that he continues to give. He loved being in the garden here and in his own garden growing vegetables which he shared.

Carla said: He made a lot of friends with the team at Carlton Court, who kindly held a wonderful service when dad passed, sharing memories of him over the years.

Malcom spent a lot of his time over the years working and supporting mental health organisations, including NSFT. Dad suffered with mental health himself but had a huge passion to support others however he could when they needed. He was very well known for his services and his cheeky smile and the way he addressed people, said Carla.

The bench was made by Ditchingham Men's Shed, which Malcolm attended.

Dawn Collins, director of nursing at NSFT, paid tribute to Malcom and all his work with the trust, saying: He was a very special man and we will really miss him.
