NSFT to start improvement work on Blickling Ward in November

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT) will start work on safety upgrades to one of our key older person’s wards from mid-November.

Environmental improvements to Blickling Ward have been ongoing for some time and are part of a series of planned upgrades started last year. They will raise the ward to the highest clinical and environmental standards and last six months.

The ward will remain partially open with 7 beds. More beds will be provided on Sandringham ward and through our Intensive Older Persons Support team (IOPS) and Dementia Intensive Support teams (DIST) during this period. These teams already work as an integral part of our acute care pathway for older people, ensuring safe and timely admission is facilitated when required.

The Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board is providing support, by creating extra beds at Carlton Court during Autumn for patients living with dementia, should they be required. These are patients who need ongoing support and care before returning home or moving to a more supported care environment.

Cath Byford from NSFT said: “Patient safety is our number one priority, and we are pleased that we are able to make this substantial investment to improve the environment in which we deliver care. I would like to thank our staff and patients on the ward for being so involved in the design and decision-making process and supporting us during the transformation.”
