A scholarship fund created in memory of Peggy Copeman, has been awarded to the older people’s inpatient team at the Julian Hospital in Norwich.

Peggy, from New Buckenham, was a NSFT service user who sadly died in December 2019. The Peggy Copeman Scholarship will be awarded yearly in her memory. Each year the successful applicant will receive £3,000 to access training. Training that will result in better care for patients.

This year's scholarship will fund Dementia Care Mapping training for the older people's inpatient team in Norwich. The winners of the scholarship were chosen by Peggy’s son in law, Nick Fulcher and Diane Hull, chief nurse at NSFT.

“We want Peggy to be remembered for the lovely person she was – she was loving and caring you couldn’t wish for a kinder person.

“Peggy would be proud of the fact that people will benefit from training to improve patient care in her name.” said Nick.

Nick added “Hopefully NSFT has learnt from the sad death of an 81-year-old being sent out of area on a 6-hour journey who died on the return journey with complete strangers & not her family.”

Dementia Care Mapping™ will help the team observe and assess the quality of care they provide from a unique perspective. The perspective of the person living with dementia.

Being able to tailor care for each individual based on what they observe will result in an improved sense of wellbeing for the person with Dementia.

“We’re honoured that Peggy’s family have allowed us to set up a scholarship in her name which will allow our staff to continually learn and improve the care we provide” said Diane Hull, chief nurse at NSFT.
