Wellbeing Norfolk & Waveney

  • The Wellbeing Norfolk & Waveney service provides psychological interventions to people aged 16 and over. It follows the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Stepped Care model. The service covers Norwich, South Norfolk, West Norfolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney and North Norfolk.

What this service offers

Most clients would work through the steps as follows:  

Step 2:  

  • Brief Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)-based psychoeducational groups in the community or live online webinar. Up to four sessions. 

  • Brief (up to six sessions) CBT-based guided self-help via telephone or online.  

Step 3:  

  • Brief CBT, either individual or group   

  • Brief Couples Therapy   

  • Brief Counselling for Depression   

  • Limited resource of Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT)   

  • Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy group courses    

  • The service offers access to Peer Support Work and Employment Support to complement the treatment packages    

  • Clients can attend Wellbeing social events across the county during and after their treatment   

What conditions do you treat?  

  • Agoraphobia

  • Body Dysmorphic Disorder

  • Depression   

  • Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)   

  • Health Anxiety   

  • Long-term physical health problems which are impacting on mental health

  • Mixed Anxiety and Depression (i.e, sub-syndromal depression and anxiety) 

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)   

  • Panic Disorder
  • Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)   

  • Social Anxiety Disorder   
  • Specific phobias.

 
Complexity: The service will accept clients with problems which are manageable by one clinician. That is, they do not need a multi-disciplinary approach)   

Impairment: The service will accept clients with mild to moderate impairment in day-to-day functioning   

Substance Use: The service will accept clients with no or minimal use that does not affect their ability to make use of therapy  

Risk: The service will accept clients with low to moderate risk. For example, fleeting or regular thoughts of harm to self or others with no or minimal intent and no active plans. Some protective factors present  

Previous interventions: The service will accept clients with at most two previous Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) interventions that have been unhelpful or unsuccessful.

The client should expect a telephone assessment within six weeks of referral receipt.  

The admin team will contact the client within three days to arrange this assessment. If we are unable to reach the client by phone within three days, the team will send a letter asking them to call to arrange the appointment. 

Visiting and onsite facilities

We see people in many venues across Norfolk and Waveney. Parking details will vary and will be included in appointment letters. The team will ask about any access needs to ensure that we see you in a setting that is suitable for your needs.

How this service support carers including friends and family

Carers can refer themselves to our service to get support for stress, anxiety, low mood or depression. 

Urgent help

If you are a service user and are in crisis and need support urgently you can contact your service on the number which will have been provided.  

Call 0808 196 3494 to speak to our 24 hour mental health crisis line called First Response.

If you are with someone who has attempted suicide, call 999 and stay with them until the ambulance arrives. 

If anyone is at serious risk of harm, call 999 and ask for the police.
