Emma Charlotte - Service User Governor, Norfolk
Term of office started 1 February 2020
I am passionate about developing services and helping to make services the best they can be. This I do by voicing the views of people using NSFT's services. The voices of service users are the most powerful and important.
As a service user of NSFT on and off for the last 10 years I have experienced different areas of care. This has included community support, the intensive support team and an inpatient admission.
In 2013 I joined a 'have your say' group. This helped me to tell staff what was good and what needed improving in my local care system as I was going through it. It led to me joining a 'Youth Council' where I interviewed new staff and spoke with the Shadow Minister for mental health. I also presented at international youth mental health conferences.
Since then, I have worked as a staff member on an elderly and adolescent mental health ward. I have also volunteered at a drop-in mental health cafe and became a Governor. My dream is to become a trained counsellor, so I am studying a degree in psychology.
I have a unique voice on the Council of Governors as I am still in services, experiencing care first-hand.
