Willows Ward

What this service offers

The Willows provides inpatients with a wide variety of assessments. The outcomes of those assessments influence the range of treatments offered. This is along with the personal wishes of inpatients.

Our team listens to inpatients when making decisions about their care. ​

The Willows is part of the Woodlands Unit at the Ipswich Hospital. The team cares for people with the following conditions:

  • Alzheimer’s
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Bipolar affective disorder
  • Dementia
  • Depression
  • Disorders involving hallucinations and delusions, including schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder
  • Frontotemporal dementia
  • Impulse control and addiction disorders
  • Lewy Body dementia
  • Mania
  • Mood disorders
  • Obsessive compulsive disorder
  • Panic disorder
  • Personality disorders​
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Psychotic disorders
  • Vascular dementia.

Access this service

The Willows is an inpatient service. GPs make referrals to this service.

If you are receiving care from psychiatric services you should contact your care coordinator. Or contact the Access and Assessment Team on 0300 123 1334. 

Visiting and onsite facilities

Parking is available at the Ipswich Hospital site, charges apply.

The Willows provides full disabled access, including toilet facilities.

A canteen is also available onsite along with coffee shops and vending machines.

How this service support carers including friends and family

Carers, friends or family of people who use this service can get a carer assessment.

The purpose of this assessment is for them to discuss with our staff the help they need. This could be with caring or managing their health and life whilst providing care.

Social services use the assessment to decide what help is available. Every carer can have an assessment, even if they don't want to receive help from social or mental health services.

Urgent help

People who are using our service should telephone the Access and Assessment Team on 0300 123 1334 when in need of urgent help.

If you are a service user and are in crisis and need support urgently you can contact your service on the number which will have been provided.  

Call 111 and select the mental health option to speak to our 24 hour mental health crisis line.

If you are with someone who has attempted suicide, call 999 and stay with them until the ambulance arrives. 

If anyone is at serious risk of harm, call 999 and ask for the police. 

For non-life threatening medical situations, call NHS111 on 111.
