    Samphire Ward

    • Samphire Ward, based at Chatterton House in King’s Lynn, is an acute admissions ward. The ward is for adults deemed to be experiencing acute mental illness. This may mean that we cannot manage them in a safe way in the community.

    What this service offers

    Our Samphire Ward team are able to offer assessment and treatment.

    The length of stay on Samphire Ward can vary from a few days to a few weeks. Our team works with patients to determine the most effective treatment. We review this regularly.

    Our team provide activities on the ward including group and 1-to-1 sessions. Our team work with inpatients to ensure they meet their needs. The team also ensures that lengths of stay are as short as possible.

    Samphire Ward inpatients have a review every week with our team. This can include family members, carers and / or advocates. We encourage involvement in care planning from inpatients and their carers. This supports timely recovery.

    Where possible, our team provides support and treatment in patient’s homes. We only admit somebody to hospital when necessary.

    The Samphire Ward team treat the following conditions:

    Acute anxiety

    Depression

    Personality disorder

    Psychosis

    Schizophrenia.

    Access this service

    Access to Samphire Ward is via a referral. We make a formal request for admission to the Crisis Team. This is following assessment and agreement with the potential inpatient.

    Visiting and onsite facilities

    Samphire Ward provides free parking on the Chatterton House site.

    Samphire Ward is on the ground floor. The ward has good disabled access, with toilet facilities for the disabled. The ward also has an assisted bathroom for inpatients.

    The Samphire Ward reception area which is open from Monday to Friday between 9:00 and 16:30. Outside of these hours there is an intercom system for use.

    A water fountain is also available to those visiting the ward.

    How this service support carers including friends and family

    With consent we encourage the involvement of relatives, friends, or partners in care. We can provide information about other support networks available in the community. We also offer carer assessments.

    Urgent help

    People already in our care should telephone 01553 736 333 or 01553 736 380 if needing urgent help.

    Call 111 and select the mental health option to speak to our 24 hour mental health crisis line.

    If you are with someone who has attempted suicide, call 999 and stay with them until the ambulance arrives. 

    If anyone is at serious risk of harm, call 999 and ask for the police. 

    For non-life threatening medical situations, call NHS111 on 111.
