Jean Clark, Trust Secretary

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT) will welcome new Governors next year to help it further improve mental health services, following recent elections.

Eight seats on the Trust’s Council of Governors were up for election this time round, and the results have now been declared.

The successful candidates, who will represent the views of local people and help shape the future of services provided by the Trust, are:

  • Public Governor (Norfolk): Rebecca Toye
  • Public Governors (Suffolk): Patrick Meehan, Dinah Morley, Sara Muzira
  • Service User Governor (Norfolk): Tallia Langston
  • Service User Governor (Suffolk): Derek Sanders, Sue Willgoss
  • Carer Governor (Suffolk): Peter Coleman

Jean Clark, Company Secretary, (pictured) said: "The Council plays a vital role in supporting the Trust to provide safe, effective and compassionate care. Our new Governors will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Trust, and we look forward to welcoming them to the Council.”

Their term of office begins on 1 February 2022.

Voting was opened to the Trust membership last month and closed on 2 December 2021.

The results were declared by Civica Election Services (CES), the independent company that runs the elections for the Council.

Only members of NSFT can be Governors and vote in Governor elections.

What is the Council of Governors?

The Council is made up of the Trust Chair, 23 elected Governors across six constituencies and seven partner Governors.

Governors share an interest in mental wellbeing and a desire to see NSFT develop and thrive for the good of service users, carers, staff and communities across Norfolk and Suffolk.

They hold NSFT’s Non-Executive Directors to account for the performance of the Board, and act as a key link between the Trust and the communities it serves.

Elections take place every year for those Governors who have come to the end of their term, or who have stopped being a Governor during the previous year. They are usually elected for three-year terms, starting on 1 February.
