Staff from minority ethnic groups across NSFT have produced a short film to dispel the myths around getting the COVID-19 vaccine. They also hope to encourage others to get the jab.

Across the UK, 59.8% to 70.6% of people have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 19.5% to 23.3% have now received both doses (week ending 16 April 2021).

The take up of the vaccine is still lower among minority ethnic groups, the hope is that this film will change that.

Some of the issues explored in the film are:

Whether you can have the vaccine during Ramadan,

the worry that the vaccine can affect fertility,

whether you can breastfeed and have the vaccine.

Priscilla Nzounhenda, chair of NSFT’s BME network is in the film, she said: “Our fear of trying a new vaccine should be overcome, not only by the desire to live but to protect our loved ones. Please get vaccinated.”

Dr Lamiya Samad said: “I hope this film initiates the process of rebuilding trust and enables our communities to (re)consider having the COVID vaccine.”

Dr Adam Morris, interim chief executive at NSFT said: “I hope the film will help to increase confidence in the vaccine and encourage people in ever-increasing numbers to go for the jab.

"It’s vital that everyone has the opportunity to discuss any fears or mis-information they may have heard. If you have any concerns or questions, please speak to a healthcare professional about them.

"The vaccine offers us the very best way of protecting ourselves and our loved ones. When it’s your turn, please take up the offer and get vaccinated.”
