Katharine Axford - Public Governor, Suffolk
Term of office started 1 February 2019
I have been a carer for more than 40 years. But my interest in mental health pre-dates my caring role. It also continued throughout my working life. This included paid and voluntary work in the NHS, local government and the voluntary sector. I have worked with carers, service users and the public in various roles. This involved providing support, advocacy and information.
I had not planned to return to paid or voluntary work. But I am enjoying having a new role within mental health services. As Governor, I aim to do all I can to help ensure that the Trust:
- provides good services for those with severe and enduring mental illness (psychosis)
- understands and respects the views of carers
- ensures good communication between carers and mental health professionals
