Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT) has today announced that Mason Fitzgerald has been appointed as its new Chief Executive Officer following a national recruitment process.
Mason, who is currently Deputy CEO & Director of Strategic Partnerships at NSFT, will take over from Jonathan Warren when he retires in March 2021.
Mason has a successful 18-year career in the NHS, all within mental health, and has played a pivotal role in supporting organisations to improve from good to outstanding.
Marie Gabriel, NSFT's Chair, said: "I am delighted to announce Mason as our new Chief Executive Officer.
"His impressive track record of achievement, enthusiasm for Norfolk and Suffolk, his dedication to improving quality and his genuine concern for our people will propel us forward on our improvement journey.
"My sincere thanks to all the service users, carers, staff, Governors and partners who took part in our rigorous recruitment process.
"Their input helped us to be clear on what we were looking for in our new chief executive, and what questions to ask our candidates which informed our final decision.
"I would also like to take this opportunity to recognise and thank our outgoing CEO, Jonathan Warren, for his incredible hard work, dedication and kindness over the last two years on behalf of the people of Norfolk and Suffolk."
Commenting on his appointment, Mr Fitzgerald said: "I feel so privileged to be appointed as the Trust's new CEO. Over the coming years, we will work tirelessly to build on the improvements we have already made.
"I will continue to listen to staff and people who use services and work more closely with partners as I firmly believe that we will achieve more by working better together."
Jonathan Warren, current Chief Executive Officer of NSFT, said: "I have always been immensely proud of our staff for the skilled and dedicated individuals they all are. But they have surpassed themselves in rising to the challenges of the current global pandemic. I am beyond proud today as their Chief Executive and I feel privileged to have been with them every step of the way.
"I wish Mason a long and successful tenure as NSFT's new Chief Executive. When I go in spring, I will be passing on to him a Trust whose staff are, by any measure, truly outstanding."
Ann Radmore, regional director of NHS England and NHS Improvement East of England Region said: "I am very much looking forward to working with Mason to help the trust achieve its ambition of improving its services for patients.
"Jonathan Warren has put in place firm foundations to improve the culture of the trust and maintain a strong focus on quality and safety. I believe Mason and his team will build upon this work by working closely with service users, staff and the trust's partner organisations.
