Men's Low Secure Services (Norfolk) (Blakeney Ward)

 What help do you offer?

Blakeney Ward is a 16-bedded ward for offending males or males at risk of offending, over the age of 18, who have a mental illness and who require a low secure setting. Blakeney Ward is housed in Northside House.

We aim to deliver a comprehensive service provision at a low secure level, as a joint working initiative in conjunction with other agencies and service providers.

We provide effective, evidenced-based care to the service population. The emphasis is needs-led and collaborative, and ensures that supportive services are always maintained for our service users, carers, relatives and statutory and voluntary agencies.

Our multi-disciplinary team includes a range of qualified staff from doctors and nurses, social workers and occupational therapists to assistant practitioners and gym instructors. The team provide specialist mental health assessment and formulation, treatment interventions, rehabilitation and recovery and risk assessment and management.

The support offered will be collaboratively created on an individual basis taking into consideration the risks associated with the offending behaviors and the person’s mental health state, along with any Home Office restrictions.

What support do you offer carers, family and friends?

Where possible we encourage service users to maintain relationships with family and friends. Where an individual has taken on a carer role, or where there are struggles to balance the caring duties with day to day life, we will refer that person for a carer’s assessment.

Information on support for carer’s and carer’s assessments is available within the carer’s booklet for Blakeney Ward.

 Referral to the service

How can people get referred to this service?

We accept referrals from medium secure units, the ‘Ministry of Justice’, national offender management services, other inpatient wards within the trust and further afield.

What to expect when referred

You can be admitted into our ward for a few months or more. We work closely with you to determine the best treatment based on risk reduction and assessment while you are here and we review this regularly.
