Community Eating Disorders Service (CEDS)

We provide support and access to therapies for people who have been assessed as having an eating disorder or difficulty maintaining a healthy weight.

When you are referred onto our service your information will be given due consideration as to whether the Eating Disorder Teams are best placed to meet your identified needs.  Following this you will be offered an initial assessment to further understand your needs and what help could be on offer within our team or a different team.

If it has been determined through the assessment that you have an eating disorder or difficulties around maintaining a healthy weight, we will offer a variety of different interventions depending on your individual needs. This might include Family Therapy and/or individual therapy with one of our therapists, such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) or motivational enhancement therapy (MET). We will monitor your weight to see how you are doing as well as helping to support the family at meal times if they are particularly difficult along with a variety of other interventions. These may include both individual interventions and also the opportunity to participate in a group programme with other families.

What conditions does the service treat?

Our service treats anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder and other eating disorders dependent upon assessment.

What support do you offer carers, family and friends?

We offer family therapy to parents and carers as well as an evening parent and carer support group. We also provide information to families and friends about other agencies or teams that we feel they will benefit from.

What age range does this service treat?

Central and West Norfolk offer a service for those young people under 18 years. Great Yarmouth and Waveney offers an ‘all age’ service.
