We have started work on an exciting multi-million pound project to develop new facilities which will further improve safety and quality at the Hellesdon Hospital site in Norwich.
Our Trust has been awarded £38m in Government funding for the redevelopment work. Although our plans are at an early stage, we propose to use the money to build a state-of-the-art unit to which four of our existing, outdated wards (Glaven, Thurne, Waveney and Yare) will relocate.
A fifth, brand new 16-bed ward will also be created so that we can increase our capacity and reduce the number of patients travelling outside of the area for treatment. In total, the five wards will provide 80 beds – 15 more than we currently have.
The project will significantly improve the environment in which our service users receive care, leading to better clinical outcomes. We expect work to be complete in 2024.
These pages will keep you updated with the latest news as the development progresses.
We are currently looking for a service users and carers, Experts by Experience, to join the Hellesdon New Wards Design Reference Group.
Co-production with people who use or have used our inpatient services is a key underpinning principle of the Hellesdon New Wards project and will ensure that our new build is designed to fully meet the needs of service users.
The successful person/s will work in co-production with the Design Reference Group to ensure that the views and voices of service users and carers fully inform the design and delivery of the Hellesdon New Wards project.
