Third Annual Nursing Conference supports safer care

The Trust’s third Annual Nursing Conference took place on 8 May at the Norwich City Football Ground. Key speakers including Director of Nursing, Jane Sayer, and RCN Regional Director, Karen Webb, discussed the importance of Supporting Safer Care.

Chief Inspector with Norfolk police, Amanda Ellis, described an important new initiative between the Tust and Norfolk Police for dealing with emergency calls from people with mental health issues. Acting Deputy Service Manager with the Trust, Terri Cooper-Barnes has been helping the Norfolk police emergency calls team by acting as a spokesperson for vulnerable service users. Terri uses her skills as a mental health nurse to talk directly to service users and ensure they receive the best possible care.

Many in the audience were fascinated to hear Professor of Psychiatric Nursing, Len Bowers, give a detailed account of how the Safewards model can be used to create a safer environment for patients and staff.

The conference was a great opportunity for nurses from all areas of the Trust to meet together and exchange views and opinions.
