Following the great success of its Ipswich event in November, Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, Feedback and Suffolk Family Carers will be holding their first Carers Forum of 2013 at The Aspire Centre, in Lowestoft on 12 April.
The Carers Forum covers various issues affecting those with mental illness and those who care for them and are held four times a year. Following its launch in Great Yarmouth in November 2011, the forums will eventually cover all areas across Norfolk and Suffolk.
Among the guest speakers will be a number of the Trust’s specilaists including Rene Bosman, talking about psychological approaches in mental health, Professor Steve Bazire MBE examining how to get the best out of mental health medicines and Dr Larry Ayuba looking at generalised anxiety disorders.
There will also be contributions from service users and carers who will be talking about their lives and how they deal with mental health issues on a daily basis.
Complementing the talks will be a number of stalls manned by various Trust departments, voluntary groups and charities including Suffolk Carers and MIND, who will be able to explain the services they provide and how to access them.
In addition, the day will also offer free taster session in holistic therapies such as Indian head massage and reflexology.
Organiser Howard Tidman, a senior practitioner at Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The Carers Forums are also open to service users and any members of the public who are interested in mental health issues, as well as professionals who wish to network with others in their field.”
The Carers Forum will be held on April 12, 10am-5pm, at The Aspire Centre at The Denes High School, Yarmouth Road, Lowestoft, NR32 4AH.
