New lease of life for NHS service in King’s Lynn

A building project to create more efficient and patient-focused mental health services in West Norfolk has been completed. The Fermoy Unit, based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn, Chatterton, and Thurlow House, both on the Chatterton site, Goodwin’s Road, are part of Norfolk and Waveney Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.

One of the many changes includes a new phone system dedicated to the mental health service.

The new phone number is 01553 609933. The changes are part of a project called ‘Building
Success in the West’, which is designed to improve the delivery of high quality, cost effective care.

Kate Willis, Locality Operations Manager said: “The new phone number, 01553 609933, is a
really positive step. Previously we used the Queen Elizabeth Hospital telephone system, which could be confusing as we are not part of the hospital itself. The new telephone system however, allows people to directly call Norfolk and Waveney Mental Health services on its own unique phone line. I see this as a positive step towards more direct patient-focused care.”

The building work, which was completed this summer, included developments to reception at the Fermoy Unit, as well as three other bases in the West; Chatterton House, North House and Thurlow House.

Kate added: “The new ways of working brought in by the developments will allow us to improve the patient experience, staff wellbeing and the Trust’s commitment to reducing unnecessary costs.”
