NSFT team’s fan-tasche-tic Movember

A team of moustached members of Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust’s Movember team have collected a hair-raising £3,259 during the annual month-long campaign.

The 28 members of the Trust’s team, One Trust Grew A Mo’, put down their razers to take up the challenge to raise funds for the Movember Foundation while also raising awareness of men’s health issues.

The worldwide Movember campaign resonated even more with NSFT staff because of the focus placed this year on improving mental health and reducing suicide among men.

The annual fundraiser encourages teams to ask for sponsorship in return for their efforts and all money raised goes towards initiatives to protect men’s health.

The outstanding amount raised help the Trust team to become “a leader of the pack… in the nationwide leader board for fundraising”, according to the Movember Foundation.

Many of those donating to the NSFT team left messages of support and their reasons for getting behind the campaign. They included:

•    “Mental illness destroys lives - the lives of those suffering and the lives of those who love them. The more we talk about this, the more we challenge ignorance and prejudice, the more likely it becomes that lives will be saved. People in darkness need all the help they can get to see the light.”

•    “A great cause to support as it touches so many of us during our lives. We have to destigmatise the subject before we can even start to tackle it.”

•    “Male suicide is a growing problem. Your moustache will die in December to help keep others alive.”

Team captain and NSFT Chief Executive Michael Scott said: “We hope this fantastic campaign helped to raise awareness of men’s mental health issues.

“The response has been amazing and everyone has been hugely supportive. We want to thank everyone who took part and donated to the charity and for telling us their often very personal reasons for getting behind the campaign.”

Staff also voted for the team member with the Most Marvellous Moustache and after a very close contest, the winner was named as Phil Cooper, who works as Link Worker at Mariner House in Ipswich and is a Mo-Bro for the second year.
