Aylsham conference celebrates recovery
09/10/2015

People who have had treatment for drug and alcohol problems will get the chance to celebrate recovery while finding out more about the help and support available locally at a special event taking place next week.

The Recovery Conference, which will be held on Tuesday, 13 October, has been organised by the Norfolk Recovery Partnership (NRP), a partnership of Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, The Matthew Project and the Rehabilitation for Addicted Prisoners Trust. It provides the adult substance misuse treatment service for Norfolk residents, commissioned by Norfolk County Council Public Health.

Taking place at The ACT Centre, St Michael’s Avenue, Aylsham, it will give service users, as well as carers and volunteers, the chance to get together and celebrate recovery.

Workshops will also take place during the day, focussing on mindfulness as well as practical first aid, while a variety of organisations will also have information stalls, including Recovery fellowships, Under 1 Roof, Red Cross, Street Life Soccer, Firm Foundations, Rehab Grads, Haven Project, Norwich MIND, Open Road, UK SMART Recovery and more.

Anyone interested in volunteering with NRP will also get the chance to find out more about the opportunities available, while service users and their carers will be able to share their experiences and give feedback to help further improve services in the county.

Denise Grimes, NRP's Service Lead, said: “This special event has been arranged to bring together service users who are recovering or exiting treatment, carers, volunteers and our partner organisations, to celebrate recovery while finding out more about local services.

“Anyone who has experience of issues with drugs or alcohol problems is welcome to drop in, take part in a variety of different activities and discussions.

“We hope as many people as possible will come and join us on the day and help us celebrate recovery, and some of the fantastic success stories taking place across the county.”

The Recovery Conference takes place at the The ACT Centre, St Michael’s Avenue, Aylsham, NR11 6YA and runs from 10am to 2.30pm.
