£1,000 boost for hospital's games area appeal

An appeal to raise £25,000 for a multi-use games area at Helledson Hospital has been given a significant boost.

A cheque for £1,000 from a charitable trust with links to a Norwich manufacturer was handed over on Saturday during the hospital’s annual summer fete, which had a Wild West theme.

Gordon Bush, Engineering Manager of Heatrae Sadia in Hurricane Way, Norwich, presented the cheque on behalf of the Baxi Heating Charitable Trust to Antek Lejk, Chief Executive of the Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT).

Maureen Tallis, Manager of the Baxi Heating Charitable Trust, said: "We are delighted to support NSFT with a £1,000 donation towards the multi-use games area for Hellesdon Hospital.

“This worthwhile cause fits with the ethos of our Trust, which aims to support local community projects, particularly those which promote education and mental and physical wellbeing."

Organisers are still counting the money raised at the fete, which will also go towards the cost of the multi-use games area.

The games area will give service users and staff an opportunity to enjoy a range of activities and sports, including basketball, tennis, football and netball, in turn helping to boost both physical and mental wellbeing.

NSFT Managing Director Julie Cave said: “On behalf of our Trust, I would like to thank the Baxi Heating Charitable Trust for this generous donation.

“The multi-use games area will be a welcome addition to our facilities at Hellesdon and will play an important role in further enhancing our service users’ recovery.”

Kerri Morecz, NSFT Therapies and Wellbeing Clinical Team Lead, said: “We encourage service users to include exercise and physical activity as part of their daily lives, as it can have such a significant impact on both their physical and mental wellbeing.”

* Anyone who would like to donate to the £25,000 appeal for a multi-use games area can send a cheque payable to Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust to Charitable Fund Officer (Finance), Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, Hellesdon Hospital, Drayton High Road, Norwich, NR6 5BE.
