Ye Ha! Rootin’-tootin’ fun day enjoyed by all
Hundreds of people turned out to enjoy a rootin’ tootin’ time at Hellesdon’s Wild West-themed Summer Fun Day on Saturday, 14 July, raising more than £4,000 towards the Trust’s charitable funds project to build a multi-use games area on the hospital site.
Former professional footballer Cedric Anselin formally opened the fete, while BBC Radio Norfolk presenter Chrissie Jackson made a special appearance to draw the raffle. There were fun runs, too, a buckin’ bronco and live music to enjoy, among numerous other attractions.
The day was organised by staff and service users from Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT) who are passionate about raising money towards the £25,000 cost of a much-needed multi-use games area for Hellesdon Hospital. The versatile outside space will give service users and staff the opportunity to enjoy a range of activities and sports, including basketball, tennis, football and netball, in turn helping to boost both physical and mental wellbeing.
CEO Antek Lejk said: “It was a really fantastic event; I had a brilliant day and from all the smiling faces around me, it seems others would certainly agree. It was such a positive and inclusive event, and really gave a sense of our Trust’s community spirit and values.
“All of our staff and their families, our service users, carers, volunteers and Governors, who were involved in getting it off the ground deserve real credit. Special thanks must go to those on the organising committee – with a particular mention to Maintenance Services and Estates – who all gave their own time to make this event such a success.
“Team members were even working at 6am to set up for the day, as well as the less glamorous job of taking everything down again, packing it away and clearing up the site.
“People really did go the extra mile and I could not be more proud of our staff and supporters for all they did to organise such an incredible day, helping to open the doors to the public, raise awareness and reduce the stigma around mental health.”
The proceeds from the fun day – added to the proceeds from last year’s summer fete and Christmas fair – have brought our funds to well over half-way towards the £25,000 target for the MUGA gym.

£1,000 boost for games area appeal
The appeal to raise £25,000 for a multi-use games area at Hellesdon Hospital was also given a significant boost, after a cheque for £1,000 from a charitable trust with links to a Norwich manufacturer was handed over on Saturday during the hospital’s annual summer fete.
Gordon Bush, Engineering Manager of Heatrae Sadia in Hurricane Way, Norwich, presented the cheque on behalf of the Baxi Heating Charitable Trust to Antek Lejk, Chief Executive of our Trust.
